Snapshots from the international bodybuilding championship, now in Oman

The sultanate hosted its first international bodybuilding championship with the 14th Arab Men’s and 10th Youth Bodybuilding Championship at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex. Around 150 athletes from 15 regional nations participated for top honours in eight categories in the men’s category and two categories in the youth section.

Most of us might look at bodybuilding as something extreme, but there’s a lot more to it than pumping yourself to mammoth proportions. Going to the gym and working out till full muscle failure might be just a sport, but if you’re willing to be open-minded enough, bodybuilding could be a way of life. The ancient Greeks certainly thought so. Plato first talked of the ideal of a sound mind in a sound body, and modern bodybuilding traces its roots back more than 2,000 years.
