TOP GEAR
HONDA JAZZES IT UP
OMASCO has added the new 2006 Honda Jazz to its line-up of passenger cars. Fitted with a sports body styling kit, alloy wheels, front fog lights and leather-bound
steering wheel as standard, the new car is targeted at those looking for a trendy, value for money vehicle to drive about town. Powered through Honda’s Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), the new engine is designed for maximum acceleration and smooth performance, whilst delivering outstanding fuel economy.
The Jazz is equipped with innovations such as a 60/40 split Magic Seat system, which allows the accommodation of large or awkward shaped objects with ease.

Bosch technology for Merc
Bosch has announced that it is equipping the new Mercedes-Benz CLS 350 CGI with its new gasoline direct injection system, which allows the reduction of fuel
consumption by up to 15 per cent.
The highlight of Bosch's new
technology is the fast-switching piezo
injectors. The fuel they spray into the combustion chamber is so finely
atomised that the fuel can be ignited directly without any need for mixing in the combustion chamber, a process known as spray-guided combustion. This is what leads to such fuel economy.
CAPTIVATING DEBUTANTE
Chevrolet recently offered the world a glimpse into the future of its comprehensive model lineup at the Geneva Motor Show with the unveiling of the all-new Captiva compact SUV.
Set to arrive in the Middle East in late 2006, the vehicle will be available in a choice of 2.4-litre four-cylinder and 3.2-litre V6 engines. The five or seven seater Captivas will feature an in-built electronic stability program.
Adding the numbers
General Motors’ (GM) formidable sales growth in the Middle East has continued into the first quarter of 2006, with total sales in January, February and March reaching 26,456 units, 22 per cent over the first quarter of 2005.
In Oman, sales increased by as much as 47 per cent over the same period in 2005, recording 489 unit sales in the first three months of 2006.
The sales growth for the automobile manufacturing firm is being fuelled by increased sales in all its major brands, including Chevrolet, Cadillac, Hummer and GMC. The Chevrolet Aveo and the Optra have been the top selling GM vehicles with an increase of 77 and 66 per cents respectively.
How much can you pack in five seconds?
Cadillac and MBC 2 have launched the ‘Under 5’ competition, which challenges viewers
to produce a film that lasts under five seconds! The competition is based around the high performance Cadillac V-Series models, all members of the exclusive class of vehicles that can go from standstill to the 100kmph mark in less than five seconds. The prize for the
winner is a trip to Phoenix, in the state of Arizona in the United States to experience the new Cadillac V Series that was launched in the Middle East.
Another Cadillac, the BLS, will soon be available as well, with two two-litre four-cylinder versions and a high-tech 2.8-litre six-cylinder units to choose from. The BLS offers five or six-speed manual and automatic transmissions, depending on the engine type that you
have chosen.
The highlight of the BLS interior is a three-spoke leather steering wheel and an analogue clock in the centre stack. The circular instruments have white numerals and red needles on a black background. The Middle East start of sales is planned for May 2006.
