2007 Cadillac Escalade debuts
General Motors has launched the all-new 2007 Cadillac Escalade, now available in the Middle East. Based on General Motors' full-size SUV platform, the Escalade features a new powertrain, chassis and safety systems. These systems contrinute to the most powerful and the most efficient luxury SUV in the segment, led by a new 6.2-litre all-aluminium V-8 engine delivering 441bhp at 6000rpm and a maximum torque of 615.5Nm at 4400rpm. The 2007 Escalade is capable of reaching a speed of 100kmph from 0 in 6.8 seconds. The glamorous launch was attended by over 400 guests at the Beirut International Exhibition and Leisure Centre (BIEL) where they were treated to a visual extravaganza of art, fashion and entertainment. |
New kid in town
The 2006 version of the Chrysler 300C SRT8 has been launched in the sultanate. The 6.1-litre normally aspirated HEMI V8 engine, mated to a five-speed automatic transmission, produces a whopping 425hp (317KW) of power and generates a maximum torque of 569Nm. To harness such enormous power and bring the
vehicle to a halt, the 300C uses 360 X 32mm vented rotors in front and 350 X 28mm vented rotors at the rear.
Power adjustable sport seats with heat and memory functions, a six-CD changer and a Boston Acoustics speaker system completes the range of features available in the 300C.
Audacious new TT
Audi is all set to launch its second
generation TT sports coupé that debuted in the autumn of 1998. The new TT Coupé is 137mm longer than before at 4,178 mm, and 78mm wider at 1,842mm. The body is constructed in the ASF space frame design developed by Audi and consists of aluminium and steel. This is the first time that it has combined different materials alongside each other, with 69 per cent of the superstructure made of aluminium and 31 per cent steel. To improve the downforce, a spoiler is extended from the tailgate when the vehicle reaches a speed of 120kmph.
The new Audi will be initially made available as a 2+2 seater coupé. The roadster model is scheduled for a later launch. The basic luggage capacity of the easily accessible boot, under its large format lid, is 290 litres. This capacity can be increased to 700 litres by folding down the rear seat backs. The sports seats
provide outstanding side restraint and
a choice of three different leathers for the covers.
Two powerful petrol engines are available to power the car. The 2-litre turbocharged four-cylinder TFSI unit, featuring FSI direct injection, develops 200bhp and is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. It is capable of accelerating to 100kmph in just 6.4 seconds.
BMW 3 Series named World Car of the Year 2006
The new BMW 3 Series has been named the 2006 World Car of the Year at a presentation
during the New York International Auto Show 2006. A jury of 46 international automotive journalists reviewed every new car available around the world and, in an exhaustive selection process, narrowed them down to three – the BMW 3 Series, Mazda MX-5 and the Porsche Cayman S.
"The BMW 3 Series has been one of the world's most enduringly popular cars since BMW pioneered the sports sedan concept more than 40 years ago" said Guenther Seemann,
managing director, BMW Middle East.
The BMW 3 Series was voted Best Medium Car at the AutoCar Middle East awards in December last year. The award preceded a number of UK awards bestowed upon BMW's new 3 Series model range.
