TOP GEAR
Road racer
Honda has now moved its race livery out of the MotoGP tracks and straight into its showrooms. A special edition CBR600RR, complete with Telefonica Movistar colours, is now available at OMASCO. Based on the design of the RC211V race bike, the special edition bike sports a 599cc engine mated to a six-speed gearbox, which produces 115bhp at 13,000rpm and a torque of 66Nm at 11,000rpm.

Stopping power for this vehicle is provided by twin 310mm X 4.5mm hydraulic discs with dual opposed four piston callipers, floating rotors and sintered metal pads up front. A single 220mm X 5mm hydraulic disc with a single calliper and metal sintered pads does duty at the rear end.

Record sales for Mercedes-Benz
Mercedes-Benz has set a new record with sales of 8,750 units in the first six months of 2006 compared to 6,846 units in the first half of 2005, a rise of nearly 20 per cent. It is the one of the top luxury brands of automobiles in Oman with sales by Zawawi Trading up 33 per cent in the first six months of 2006. Meanwhile, the new S-Class seems to be the Middle East's favourite luxury sedan. It has maintained its position as the top seller in its segment in Oman with an increase of 43 per cent, thanks to advanced safety, luxury features and performance.

Virtual challenge
German automobile manufacturer Audi has created a mobile phone game that allows users to experience the marque's cars in the virtual world. The game, called Q7 Challenge, provides an interactive medium enabling users to experience the different features of the auto manufacturer's new performance SUV.

Launched across the GCC, the game will be sent out via WAP Push to Audi’s customers. The game features three tracks – the Bahrain F1 circuit, a frozen river and a sand course on which the player can experience the car's reaction with and without Audi's latest technological features including electronic stability programme, Audi’s air suspension and side assist.

The Q7 Challenge can be downloaded free from the Audi Middle East website (www.audi-me.com) or by texting 'challenge' to +971 50 4590598 (standard costs for one SMS apply. The phone’s GPRS must be activated).

Plans are also in place to expand Audi's mobile marketing activities with a Q7 car configurator, allowing users to customise their Q7. They can find out prices by choosing between several options for interiors and exteriors, extras and features.

Hot wheels
French auto manufacturer Renault has launched two fresh models in the sultanate in a bid to expand its customer base. The Renault Megane Sport's turbocharged two litre four cylinder 16-valve engine produces 225bhp and a maximum torque of 300Nm. Nifty features include automatic airconditioning, rain sensing wipers and automatic headlamps. For those not so sportily inclined, Renault has launched the Laguna. Its two litre engine with four in-line cylinders and 16 valves produces 136bhp and 191Nm of torque. Comfort features include a handy steering mounted audio and cruise controls. Safety features on both vehicles include ABS, airbags for driver and front passenger, lateral chest airbags and curtain airbags.
