TOP GEAR
The new webbed GL-Class
Mercedes Benz has introduced a bilingual website for the new GL class – www.mb-me.com/gl – aimed at providing its customers with comprehensive details about the new vehicle and the opportunity to book a test drive.

By logging on prospective customers across Oman can learn about its powerful new engines, the interiors, on and off-road handling characteristics and its safety systems. The new vehicle features special off-road drivers' aids like downhill speed regulation, hill start assist and anti-lock brakes adapted for functioning off the tarmac. This package comes with an option of two engines – a 5.5-litre, 388hp powerplant for the GL500 and a 4.7-litre, 340hp version for the GL450. The modified air suspension on the new vehicle increases ground clearance by 307mm.

Starring the Audi Q7
The National Highway Transport Safety Administration (NHTSA) of America has awarded the Audi Q7 a rating of five stars in two separate safety tests. The vehicle was put through two high-load crash tests – a frontal collision at 56kmph, and a side-on collision through a mobile barrier moving at a speed of 62kmph. The five star ratings in each of these tests mean that the SUV is one of the safest vehicles in its class.

The Q7 also boasts the latest generation electronic stability programme with brake assist, hill-start assist and rollover stabilisation as standard.

CONTINENTAL PREVIEW
Bentley-Oman recently launched the 2+2 convertible Continental GTC, completing the Continental range of models that included the Continental GT and the Flying Spur. The new GTC sports a six-litre twin turbocharged W12 engine that is capable of producing 552bhp at 6,100rpm and a maximum torque of 650Nm at a very low 1,600rpm. Estimated at RO97,000 the vehicle is expected to combine luxury with style and performance effortlessly. According to figures provided by Bentley-Oman the Continental GTC can go from zero to 100kmph in just 5.1 seconds and can reach a top speed of 312kmph with its soft roof up. Bentley-Oman addressed concerns, stating that the car was designed such that the soft roof would adequately withstand the heat and insulate driver and passengers from wind noise.

Chevrolet adds up
Chevrolet sales have increased 27 per cent in the first nine months of 2006 over the same period last year. According to General Motors the success could be ascribed to the brand's four top selling models: Captiva, Lumina, Epica and Caprice. The Epica, Lumina and Caprice make up three of GM's top eight selling models in the region. The new models are spectacular new cars which are expected to catapult GM to even more success.
